Bibi Salon: The New Salon for the New Harlem

Maisha’s Fab 5

With the temperatures in this week’s forecast feeling more like Spring, I wanted to share a few of my faves! :)

Mohonk Cottage

Mohonk Cottage

1. Mohonk Mountain House.  This resort in New Paltz, NY, is perfect when trying to get away from the typical city hustle.  The Mohonk Mountain House is a cool hotel resort – very exclusive with amazing scenery   And if you’re not impressed by the view, the spa should grab your attention, especially with all of the various services it has to offer.  It screams “no children allowed!”   LOL!

creamsicle nails, nail art, spring nails, cool nails, nail polish

Creamsicle Nails

2. Creamsicle nails.  Nothing says fun like creamsicle nails.  It’s a quick way to spruce up your look.  To add even more sweetness to your nails, try a creamsicle moon mani.  No hassle required.

Evelyn's Kitchen Bakery

Evelyn’s Kitchen

3. Brownies at Evelyn’s Kitchen.  Brownies make everything all good, especially when they’re baked at Evelyn’s Kitchen.  Owner, Ayala Donchin, and her talented staff are great at what they do.  I even have lots of receipts to prove it.  I’m a sucker for tasty treats, and the brownies (and blondies) at this East Harlem bakery get it right every time.

Champagne in a can, SOFIA Champagne, Francis Ford Coppola

SOFIA Champagne, Francis Ford Coppola

4. SOFIA Champagne. There’s nothing like some bubbly during warm months. Sofia Blanc de Blancs adds a little more fun to any party.  The Francis Coppola brand even decided to make life a lot easier with the champagne-in-a-can concept.  So now you don’t have to tote around a bottle and a corkscrew to this summer’s picnic gatherings.

Harlem, by Jonathan Gill

Harlem: The Four Hundred Year History from Dutch Village to Capital of Black America, by Jonathan Gill

5. Harlem: The Four Hundred Year History from Dutch Village to Capital of Black America, by Jonathan Gill.  This is an amazing story.  There’s no doubt that Harlem is a resilient neighborhood, with a lot of history, soul, and culture.  Gill gives light to Harlem’s beginnings, along with its transformation.  His details are sure to school anybody who reads the book.  This story is a history lesson, indeed – one that will make Harlemites proud.

Snooki Guidette Pouf on Your Wedding Day

Snookie Hair StyleHollywood actresses on the big screen and television used to dictate the must-have hair trends. Today, the Audrey Hepburn, Jennifer Aniston, Farrah Fawcett, Halle Berry, and Meg Ryan tresses are no longer being asked for on wedding days. Reality shows stars like Kim Kardashian, Snooki, Mob Wives, and The Real Housewives have become the new fashion icons for makeup and hair trend requests from brides. Now, Jersey Shore’s Snooki’s trademark teased crown pouf has made its way down the runway and the wedding aisle this season. This hairstyle can be softened and given a more elegant look, still keeping the voluminous pouf and twisted ponytails.

For beautiful outdoor weddings in Hartford, Mystic, New London, Greenwich, and The Hamptons, brides adding an exotic flower would complement this Guidette look and finish the style. Make sure to use Phyto Phytolisse Finishing Serum to lock out humidity, calm fly aways, tame frizz and add shine to your gorgeous wedding hair. To hold your hair in place as you and the groom fist pump on the dance floor don’t forget your L’OREAL Elnett Satin hairspray in Extra Hold.

Get Tangerine Orange This Spring

It’s definitely spring time and I am starting to retire some of my Winter clothes, scarves, and boots. I am excited about wearing a pop of color, and this Spring, my palette will consist of beautifully ostentatious oranges. During New York Fashion Week Fall 2012, designers like Nanette Lepore, Monique Lhuillier, Tracy Reese, Anna Sui, and Michael Kors, all flirted with shades of bright orange on the runway with their collection, makeup, clothes, and even nails. Just last week, I was a guest makeup artist at the Sephora stores in Greenwich and Danbury, Connecticut. The store was hosting a high-end limited collection called Tangerine Tango.

Bold tangerine lip colors will not be the only choice this Spring, as there will be lots of yummy orange lip shades for you to choose from. You can select a sheer lip, a stain lip, or a strong bold lip color. If you’re not ready to add it to your lips, then make sure to add this delicious color to your wardrobe or your nails.

How to get the haircut that suits you best

Face Shape and Hair CutsOften we see things that we think we might like until we try them on or purchase them. Only then do we come to the realization that it may  not be for us! Haircuts can be the same way so you must do your research. I have selected some points that I hope will help you with finding your new look!

Let’s work together and keep the Mojo in rotation!

Facial Shape/Pictures

This is more important than u can imagine!! You may have the right hair type, color, be great at daily maintenance but the hairstyle is not flattering to you.  Please  please please when chosen a new look always find pictures of people who have your facial type! Use the internet. There is someone out there that has your facial shape and your desired new look. This helps your communication with your stylist to make the right adjustments on your desired look.

Communication between you and your stylist is essential to your maximum state of MOJOISM. Remember hairstylist are visual creates! That is how we create! Pictures help more than you know. Why? Because we can see what is actually in your head!! We can determine your idea of how you envision yourself. So please please bring them to your “new look consultation”. It will be the basis of your new look and stylist can began to make whatever changes that need be made!

Hair Type

Please keep in mind what you have on your head when choosing a new look! If you have thin hair and have a picture of a chick that has a thick bob you will be truly disappointed!  Or if you have a pic of someone who has a cut with a looser curl than you u will be disappointed.  Get my drift?? So be realistic about your hair type and trust there are enough pics on the internet that you can choose from!!

This is tricky.. When u are selecting your new look you must consider color.. The pics u select don’t have to include the cut photo. It should separate the two. Determine if you like the cut, and color (whole package) if not find a pic of the color you would love to have with this new cut. The more photos the better.

Daily Maintenance

When choosing your new look Please be honest about how much time its gonna take to duplicate the new look. If you are not use to taking time to make the proper finishing touches on your hair you may wanna reconsider your “new look”  Be realistic and honest with yourself and your styling abilities, If you need help and assistance You must have your stylist spend some time showing you some techniques to increase your Mojo! And lets’s not forget it will help your mornings run smoothly also.

You must ask your stylist what products you need to purchase or use to achieve your new look and get them! And use them! It will only take a second! No need to get this far and drop the Mojo ball!!
